Colonel Robert Benjamin Kyle was the son of James Kyle and Elizabeth Jones Kyle.
He was a Captain in the 31st Ala. Inf.:CSA, prior to this, he served as 1st Lieutenant of Co. A, 31st Ala Volunteers and Quartermaster. He served until the end of the war and was promoted from Captain to Colonel. He is remembered for establishing Alabama's, "first", Confederate States regular army recruiting office.
In his private life, he was a well known Merchant and Business Man, who involved himself in many major projects for the improvement of Etowah County, Alabama that helped bring about a better railway system and the opening of several new businesses and new job openings.
He married first on December 05, 1848 in Muscogee Co., GA, to Mary Ann Allen Thornton, daughter of Dozier Thornton. She was born July 07, 1833 and died about 1855
Their children were:

(2) Benjamin Allen Kyle (he married Malissa A. Cooper)
(3) Mary A. Kyle (she married Marcus Lucius Foster)
He married second on October 02, 1856 in Muscogee Co., GA, to Mary Virginia Nuckolls on Oct. 02, 1856 in Muscogee Co., GA and they had children:
(1) Jennie Kyle
(2) Cornelia Kyle (she married James Madison Elliott)
(3) Emma L. Kyle
(4) Thomas Stonewall Kyle (spouse: Susan "Sudie" Murphy)
(5) Joseph Kyle
(6) Bessie Lee Kyle (she married William J. Beggs)
(7) Edith Kyle (she married Eugene Exum Thompson)
(8) Roberta Kyle (she married Franklin Fletcher Smith)
(9) Florence "Florie" Kyle (spouse: Richard A. Harris)
He married third on April 30, 1894 in Fulton Co., GA, to Mrs. Sarah H. (White) Huguley, the widow of the late George Huguley. They did not have any children together.
