Roger J. Tonnon, 77, Crooked Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Green Bay, to Floyd and Elizabeth (Van Erem) Tonnon. On May 3, 1947, Roger was united in marriage to Elaine Burkel at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howard. Roger started Seaway Foods in Howard with his partner Ben Neerdaels in 1956 and ran the business until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement Roger and Elaine moved to Crooked Lake. Roger was a lifetime member of the Howard-Suamico Optimist Club and was a longtime member of the Ruff Riders Snowmobile Club. He also belonged to St. Benedict Parish since 1959. Roger enjoyed snowmobiling and in his younger days he enjoyed boating.
Roger is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine; four children and their spouses, Nanci and Tony Denissen, Green Bay; Jeff and Cindy Tonnon, Bob and Jackie Tonnon, all of Suamico; Dan and Cathy Tonnon, Howard; five grandchildren, Tim Anderson, Hollie Tonnon, Ryan Tonnon, Emily Tonnon, Sarah Tonnon; three great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, Jessie Van Laanen, Jay Van Laanen, Laura Denissen; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Robert Johnson, Howard; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Burkel, Menelta Burkel, both of Howard; Olive Teebo, Chicago; many other relatives and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Brian Tonnon.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may also call at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 3370 Deerfield West, Suamico, from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Gary J. Dantinne officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

The Tonnon family would like to thank the nurses and staff of New Care Nursing Home for all of their care of Roger and his family.
