Death of Fred Eastman
Fred Eastman died at the home of his mother, Mrs. A.H. Eastman in St. Paul, June 8, 1897. The cause of his death was quick consumption. The remains were brought to Eldora, Friday and buried here beside those of his father, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Fred was the youngest son of the late Governor Eastman, so well and favorably known throughout the entire state. He was born in Eldora, November 18, 1866. He received his education in the Eldora public schools and learned his trade as a printer in The Herald office. During the winter of 1886-1887, he went to St. Paul. He joined the Typographical Union No. 30 and secured work in the composing rooms of the Pioneer Pres and had been continuously employed there up to the time of his final illness.

He was 30 years, 6 months and 20 days old at the time of his death. A few days before the end Fred Knowing that his time was short, expressed a desire to be buried from the old homestead at Eldora, where Ezra Nuckolls now lives. Accordingly the funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Nuckolls Saturday afternoon. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Luce, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church in this city. Mrs. A.H. Eastman accompanied the remains of her son from St. Paul. The blow to her is very hard, as Fred was her only living child.

The following friends and relatives from out of town were present at the funeral, Mrs. Carrie Adams and Mrs. Mary Converse, of Oskaloosa, Mrs. C.C. Gilman and daughter, Caralyn, of Marshalltown, Mrs. David Todd and her daughter, Belle and Baby Todd, of St. Paul.
