She was the youngest of ten children, born on April 8, 1930 to the late Clarence and Mary (Powell) DesJardins in Alcon County, Michigan. In 1940 her family moved to Munising to live at Powell's Point. In her teen years, Jean worked at the Hotel Williams on Grand Island. She was a member of the William G. Mather class of 1949. Jean began working at Atlas Plywood, where she met her husband Lawrence "Larry" Gollinger, they were married on February 18, 1956. Jean worked for the Munising Public Schools for over twenty years, always taking great pride in her bus driving and custodial duties. She loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, mushrooming, being on the water, watching the pansies in the spring, and listening to the chipmunks and partridge rustling in the leaves. Jean was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and her family heritage.
She is survived by her two daughters Darlene (Terry Dishong) Moreland of Trenary and Kelly (Loren) King of Munising; step-children Lorraine Hensel of Sturtevant, WI and Raymond (Donna) Gollinger of Munising; grandchildren James Moreland III and Steven Moreland; numerous nieces and nephews; and dog Kirby and twenty-two year old cat Critter. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mary; husband Larry; siblings Marcele Brandford, Kathleen Miuelrath, Ann Thompson, Truman, Lewis, Leonard, Harvey, Ernest, and Raymond DesJardins; step-daughter Barbara Moore; and son-in-law Russel Culp.
Deacon Tom Moseley will conduct Jean's Funeral at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jean will be "Going Home" for interment at the Williams Family Cemetery on Grand Island
