Graveside services for Mavis (Gilchrist) Allen, 90, Okoboji, were 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 1990, at the Laurens Cemetery, Laurens. She died Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. Allen was born Aug. 15, 1900, in Laurens to Fred C. (later Congressman) and Ella Gilchrist. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1922 and taught school in Ankeny. She served as a legislative aid in the House of Representatives from 1932 to 1944. She later made her home at Laurens and Okoboji (Des Moines Beach).

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Stitcher's and the Birthday Club.

Survivors include one son, Ben Allen, Jacksonville Beach, FL; one daughter, Winifred Shuttleworth, Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Michael Allen and Sue Allen, both of Tallahassee, FL, Jeffrey Shuttleworth of San Francisco, CA, Jane Shuttleworth and Ann Shuttleworth, both of Cedar Falls; and one great-grandchild, Jennifer Allen, of Tallahassee.

She was preceded in death by a sister and one brother.
