NEW ALBANY.

John Briscoe died a few days ago at his home in Harrison county. He was eighty-three years of age, and was the father of twenty-three children, forty-five grand-children, and fourteen great-grand-children.

The Courier-Journal; Louisville, Kentucky.
April 24, 1888

Son of William and Lavina (Watson) Briscoe, his family traveled from Kentucky to Southern Indiana around the same time that Josiah Lincoln moved his family to that place from Washington County, Kentucky.

John first married Nancy, a daughter of Josiah and Catherine (Barlow) Lincoln. Her modern monument states that she was the mother of nine children, but does not name any of them. Several are known to have died early.

After his first wife's death, John married Nancy Ann Gibbs and had at least nine more children, as his death notice credits him with having had twenty three offspring between his two wives.

He owned a large tract of land in Harrison County's Blue River Township. It included the land that the former Mt. Zion Church stood on, and this cemetery which belonged to it. His land north, south, and west of the road that borders this cemetery.

John died at his home. His son Elbridge served as the Administrator of his estate.
