Married John Thomas 1827 in Lawrence County, Alabama, Sometime about 1856-1857 John Couch was baptized in the Latter Day Saints Mormon Temple. Under the laws of the Mormon temple, a man could have as many wives as he had wealth to support them. John Couch took a second wife. Mary Polly George Couch did not approve of this marriage. She and the children left John Couch in Utah . He died 1863 in Ogden Utah.
On the last day of Mary's life, she went over to see baby J.C. Couch and spent the day. She was returning to the J.B.Reagon home where she was living. The house had a fence around it. Mary was riding the pony sidesaddle and bent over to open the gate without dismounting. Something scared the pony and it threw her breaking her hip. Mary only live a short time after this fall.
