Leonard P. Wheatley, 85, of Hardinsburg died there Friday, December 1, 2000, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The Breckinridge County native retired from the Army and the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church. His [step] son, Charles Franklin Burdette, died in 1997. Survivors include his wife, Allene Butler Wheatley; two [step] sons, Maurice Burdette of Tennessee and James D. Burdette of Hardinsburg; a [step] daughter, Peggy Dowell of Hardinsburg; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Haskell of Hardinsburg. Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in St. Romuald Church Cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
