John Louis "Jack" Akard 1907-1967
George Charles Akard 1909-1983
James Miller Akard 1912-1967
Dorothy Mary "Dot" Akard Epstein 1914-1985

When her mother died in July of 1932, Leona, her sister, Dorothy, her father and her Aunt Bert (who was blind - she later had surgery and could see wearing thick glasses - surgery had been delayed because she was a Christian Scientist) were left living at the house at 514 Dorman. At this time her brother, George, and his wife and his daulghter, Jackie, were living there. George's daughter, Pat, was born at that house on July 11th - just 6 days after her grandmother died.

Leona's father worked parttime as a tailor and they were behind in their rent. The household soon split up. Bert went to work for the Fouts family (a man and his mother) as a live in housekeeper. (Bert married Mr Fouts 3 years later at the age of 60.) Dorothy went to Chicago. Her father went to Henderson, Kentucky. Leona went to live with a co-worker at the hosiery mill, Velma. George and his family found other accomodations.

Her siblings: John Louis 'Jack' Akard Jr (1907-1967); George Charles Akard (1909-1983); James Miller Akard (1912-1967) and Dorothy Mary Epstein (1914-1985).

Leona married Kenneth David Fulford on 15 Apr 1933 in Indianapolis, Marion Co, Indiana.

Early in her marriage she cared for 54 foster children (infants) waiting for adoption - usually for about six weeks.

Their children: Sandra Lee Sharp, Nomi Ann Weaver and Kenneth 'Scott' Fulford.

She worked as an insurance underwriter for 15 years for Indiana Union Mutual, Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 1972.

Leona developed Alzheimer's disease. The onset of the disease was about 1972 and she took retirement because of memory problems. She finally entered a nursing home in September of 1982.

She was a member of the Southport Presbyterian Church and the Brightwood Chapter Order of Eastern Star 399.

She died at age 76 years 11 months 21 days.
