Helen Melville (née Smith) was born in West Derby on the 2nd April 1898 to parents Edward John Smith and Sarah Eleanor (née Pennington). Her Father who Captained the ill fated Titanic died on the 15th April 1912, not long after her 14th Birthday.

She married Sidney Russell-Cooke in the January of 1923 and they had 2 children who were twins born on the 18th June 1923. Priscilla Russell and Simon Russell (Cooke).

Sadly she outlived her husband who died aged 38 in 1930, then losing her Mother who was knocked down and killed in 1931, she also outlived both of her children, Simon dying first aged just 20 in 1944 and her Daughter dying just a few years later aged just 24 in 1947.

She died on the 18th Aug 1973 aged 75 and was buried at Brookwood Cemetery.
