Monarch of Spain. Descendant of the Bourbon dynasty, he is known as the usurper in that he ousted the father King Charles IV (1808) and forcing him into exile with his wife Queen Maria Luisa. He reigned in two different times because immediately afterwards he was ousted in turn by Napoleon Bonaparte. In 1813, following the French defeat in the battle of Leipzig, the victorious nations decreed the Bourbon restoration with Ferdinand VII as king of Spain. He was the last absolute ruler of the decadent Spanish empire.
