Thaddeus bought eighty acres of land from his father. For some time he lived with his parents, working his own land and that of his father. Later, he bought a small farm about three miles distant, and moved his family there, but continued to work his father's land. After the death of his father, he moved back to the original home, taking care of the aged mother until the time of her death.
Thaddeus was one of the six boys in his father's family that was really a home lover and not a wanderer. He lived his entire life on the same farm that his father settled in 1847. After his father's death, he bought the rest of the original farm, built a large basement barn, and other farm buildings. He lived on this farm until his death.
