Sim was the seventh of eight children born to Byron H. & Ella Armina (Whiting) McCray.
Sim was a lawyer; having earned his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard University in 1924, after getting his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Wisconsin (1921). In college he was a member of the University of Wisconsin Glee Club – singing as a first tenor. This is also where he developed a reputation as a polished public speaker.
In 1926, Sim married Anna G. Braun; she was age 29, he was 30. Born 12 June 1897 in Wahpeton, ND; Anna was the sixth of eight children born to Mathias & Gertrude (Schmitt) Braun.
Sim died of old age in June 1986 in Chicago, IL at age 90.
