Zachary Taylor Earl was the son of Nehemiah D. and Elizabeth (Dimmitt) Earl. Zachary and his wife Caroline were married on September 23, 1868, in Wapello County, Iowa.

Z.T. Earl, a resident of Ottumwa and vicinity seventy-five years, died in the hospital at San Pedro, Calif., Wednesday, May 8, after an illness of only a few days duration. Funeral services were conducted at the home of his son, Dr. Harry D. Earl, in San Pedro, Friday morning, May 10. At his expressed wish, the deceased was cremated and placed in the Sunnyside mausoleum at Long Beach.
Mr. Earl was born in Dahlonega, Wapello county, Iowa, February 22, 1848, and was 81 years 2 months and 16 days old at the time of his death. Most of his life was spent in Ottumwa where for many years he was engaged in the grocery business. Six years ago he moved to Los Angeles where he resided at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Caroline Bedell Earl to whom he was married 61 years, and the following children: Mrs. Florence McClosky and Dr. Harry D. Earl, of San Pedro; Mrs. Carolyn Bender and Edgar B. Earl, of Long Beach; Mrs. Martha Jones of Los Angeles; and Dr. Warren Z. Earl of Sioux City, Iowa, all of whom were with him at the time of his death. He is also survived by five grandsons, all in California.
He will be remembered by a host of friends in Ottumwa and vicinity.–Contributed.
