George Terry Jackson was born in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, on October 27, 1943, to the late George S. Jackson and Irma Lee (Clark) Jackson. Terry Graduated from Falls Church High School in Virginia and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1966.

After two years in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the University of Georgia Law School in 1971, and was sworn into the Georgia Bar in 1971. He began practicing criminal law in Savannah in 1974. He is the Past President of the Savannah Bar Association, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Attorney's, the Savannah Association of Criminal Defense Attorney's, the Savannah Lion's Club, served as co-chairman of the State Bar Committee for post-conviction representation for over 10 years and has served on the Board of Director's of the Georgia Resource Center since its inception.

His favorite pastimes were telling stories to his grandchildren, traveling, and fishing.
