It is with deepest sorrow we announce the death of John Uel Pemberton at Drumright, Okla., on June 21, 1920. He was born February 8, 1914, at Iberia. He was the son of C.F. and Carrie Pemberton, formerly of Miller County but now living in Drumright, Okla.
Uel, with his brother Oscar and some neighbor boys, were playing near his home when an oil truck passed by and stopped. The boys asked the driver to ride with him. He told them to get in. The older boys jumped into the seat. Little Uel was at the side trying to get in when the truck started, causing him to fall. The rear wheel ran over his body, killing him almost instantly. A doctor was called at once and all that loving hands could do was done for him.
He leaves a father, mother, one sister, two brothers, two grandparents, and many relatives and friends to mourn his death.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Drumright, Okla., June 23. The services were very impressive. His Sunday school teacher and classmates paid a beautiful floral tribute. They sang his favorite song, "The Meeting in the Air." We never can forget hearing his sweet voice singing it and it will be a glorious meeting "over there" when we all shall meet again. The body was laid to rest in the Drumright Cemetery.
It was so sad to part with him, but we realize that our loss was Uel's eternal gain. Oh, ‘tis so lonely here without him.
