Timothy J. Benton, 48, Springfield, passed from this life at Cox South Hospital at 7:35 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2004. The son of Herbert and Mary Benton, he was born in Kansas City, Kan., April 18, 1956. Following four years in the U.S. Naval Service, he was honorably discharged and joined the National Guard in which he served until 1986. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Charleston. He was also a U.S. Navy Seal. Tim loved the outdoors, especially being around horses. He had earned an Equine Degree from Northwest Community College. He had attended SMSU and at the time of his death was pursuing work on a degree from OTC in drafting design. He was a member of Sunset Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Deana, to whom he was wed Jan. 14, 1983; a son, Austin, and daughter, Kayla, both of the home; his father and mother, Herbert and Mary Benton of Richmond, Mo.; two brothers, Matthew Benton, Winston, Mo., and Mark Benton of Richmond; and also a host of friends. Tim was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends
