Nick, a lifetime resident of the Village of Los Ranchos, was predeceased by his son Kenneth Chavez; parents Nicolas Sr. and Mary B. Chavez; and brothers: Henry, Delfino, Juan de Dios "Johnny", Alfredo "Fecho"; and sister Rafaelita "Lita" Chavez.

Nick was survived by his wife of 55 years, Priscilla Chavez; sons: Larry Chavez and Daniel Nick Chavez (wife Kathy Chavez); daughter: Deborah Chavez-Jaramillo (husband Johnny Jaramillo); and granddaughter Nicki Jaramillo; brother Edward Chavez (wife Rosemary Chavez); and many nieces and nephews.

Nick Chavez was a member of a historical New Mexico Hispanic family, with roots dating back to the late 1600s in New Mexico's north valley. Nick served in the infantry during the Korean Conflict and worked for 35 years as a truck driver for ICX. He was also a member of the Teamster's Union, The American Legion Post 69 and received many awards of recognition for his community service with the Senior Citizens of Bernalillo County. Nick was an active member and helper in his church, Eagle Rock Worship Center and will be missed by his family and many friends.

Visitation and Services were held on February 12, 2008 at Eagle Rock Worship Center, 7518 Oakland Ave. NE. Interment followed at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
