Oct. 1, 1912 - Sept. 27, 2009

ELVERA SCHROEDER WICKUS BARSTOW, age 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, the 27th of September 2009. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Leroy "Bob" Wickus and Jack Barstow and her daughter Carol Kerr. She is survived by her children Sandy Tyer, Barbara Kuske and Randall Wickus; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elvera was a woman before her time. She owned her own dress design shop "The Silver Thimble" in Madison, Wisconsin before World War II and designed the first WAC uniforms for military women. Later when she and her family moved to Houston, Texas she re-opened "The Silver Thimble" in Westbury Square. She was a renowned ballroom dancer and designed and made many of their costumes. Elvera was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Diane Austin for all the care and devotion she has given Elvera these past few years. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 30th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, in Houston, with Pastor Mark R. Wiesenborn officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
