George R. Swank, 85, of Glen Mawr, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Muncy Valley Hospital.

Born October, 25, 1921, in Sullivan County, he was a son of the late O. Raymond and Ambra Chestnut Swank. He and his wife, the former Lois L. Speary, celebrated 63 years of marriage on October 25, 2006.

George owned and operated Swank's Sunoco in Glen Mawr for 28 years and retired in 1986. Prior to owning the service station, George was employed at the former International Furniture Factory in Montoursville for 18 years. He was also a WW II veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

George was a member of the Point Bethel United Methodist Church, Glen Mawr and the American Legion Post 601, Sonestown. He was a charter member of the Glen Mawr Lions Club and a former member of the Picture Rocks Lions Club. George enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, gardening and building birdhouses.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Robert Swank of Hughesville; a daughter, Judith A. (Donald) Babb of Muncy; a sister, Mary Babb of Glen Mawr; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Louise Swank and a brother, Harry Swank.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Gerald Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veteran organizations.
