Dr. W. H. Lamar died at the
home in this city of his son, Howard Lamar, Esq., Saturday night, after an illness of about a week. He was in his usual health until about a week previous to death, and was a man of unusual physical strength for one of his advanced age up to that time, and he retained his mental strength until the very last.
The remains were prepared and shipped Sunday to his old home at Auburn for burial, which took place in that city Monday afternoon. The remains were accompanied from here by his sons, Howard and George Lamar, and daughter, Mrs. Glenn Philips.

Dr. Lamar was born at Augusta, Ga., July 13, 1837, where he spent his youth until about fourteen years of age, when he moved with his father and family to Barbour county, Ala. He married Miss Glenn, daughter of the late John B. Glenn, the founder of the A. &. M. College at Auburn, which was first known as the East Alabama Male College, before it was taken over by the State. The deceased resided at Auburn for fifty years, until the death of his wife several years ago, when he came to Jasper to make his home with his two sons--Prof. T. J. and Howard Lamar.
A number of children survive him, among them five sons, all prominent in professional and business life.
They are: Prof.T. J. and Howard Lamar, of Jasper; Rev. Dr. A. J. Lamar, of Nashville, an able Methodist minister; Col. W. H. Lamar and George Lamar, of Washington, D. C. The latter was here and accompanied the remains to Auburn, as was a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Phillips, of Clanton.
