AUBURNDALE -- (Special) -- Ernest Weichelt, a farmer in the town of Auburndale for 56 years until retiring in the fall of 1845, died at midnight Friday at the age of 98. Death occurred at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Weichelt, route 1, Granton, where he had been living for the past three years.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt, of which Mr. Weichelt was a charter member. The Rev. Nicholas Hasz will officiate at the rites and burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hansen Funeral Home in Marshfield from Sunday evening to noon Tuesday, when the body will be taken to the church.
Born in Kebnetz [sic], Germany, Oct. 25, 1859, Mr. Weichelt was married in that country June 3, 1883, to Augusta Auerbach, who preceded him in death Sept. 5, 1946. The couple settled in Auburndale after coming to the United States in 1890. Since his wife's death and his retirement from farming, Mr. Weichelt had made his home with his children.
They are Ernest and Emil of Marshfield, Mrs. George (Anna) Korth, route 5, Marshfield, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth) Panzer, Hewitt, Herman of route 3, Stratford and William. A son, Bruno, died in 1912 and two daughters died in Germany. Two sisters also preceded him in death.
Surviving, in addition to the six children, are 36 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren.
