Mary Louise Summers Gilley "Mimi", 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Gazebo Terrace in Brenham, Texas.

Memorial Services will be held at River Oaks United Methodist Church, 4800 Ohio Garden Road, River Oaks 76114 at 11:00am on Saturday April 7, 2012.

Mary was born and raised in Fort Worth, Tx and lived in River Oaks for 57 years. As her husband Charles' health declined and he passed away in 2004 she moved to a Brenham nursing home to be near her daughter Cathleen and husband Bob. She was a daughter to one, a mother to some and Mimi to many.

Mary was born Mary Louise Summers on August 27, 1924 in Fort Worth, to parents Paul Thomas and Bernice Splawn Summers. She grew up during the time of the depression which made her able to appreciate everything in her life and the future she was dreaming of. She graduated Northside High School and began working for Montgomery Wards where she met and married the love of her life Charles Edgar Gilley on November 28, 1942 for time and all eternity. After WWII they made their home in River Oaks and resided on Montrose Drive for over 50 years. She became a proud mother of four children Cathleen, Charles Ted, Mary Elizabeth and James Thomas. When her children were young she worked for Leonard Brothers as a comptometer operator and after her kids were older she volunteered at the Information Desk at Harris Hospital Downtown as well as dedicated many hours to the United Methodist Women's Group at River Oaks United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy and purpose in life was her family, immediate and extended. Mary always did everything out of great love for her family. She enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a simple beautiful woman who we came to depend on, whether it was the Friday night hamburgers or the endless memory games. She always made time for you. She made everyone feel welcome in her home and once she became part of your life you knew you were in the presence of a caring, loving, thoughtful and incredible lady. She leaves a great posterity of love, compassion and dedication. Our lives will be forever blessed and our souls have been forever touched for knowing such a wonderful person as Mary Louise Gilley.

She is preceded in death by her parents Bernice and Paul Thomas Summers, husband of 60 years Charles Edgar Gilley "Sparky", son Charles Ted Gilley "Teddy" and daughter Mary Elizabeth Gilley Swaim "Liz".

She is survived by her daughter Cathleen Davis and husband Bob of Chappell Hill, son Dr. James Thomas Gilley "Jamie" and wife Dee of China Springs. Sister Joan Whittle and husband Charles Whittle of Fort Worth, brother Kenneth Summers and wife Carolyn of Kyle. Grandson Jason Swaim and wife Ifeta of Azle, grandson Brian Davis and fiancé Siri of Houston, granddaughter Ashley Steele and husband Keith of Poolville, granddaughter Sarah Swaim of Poolville, granddaughter Victoria Davis of San Francisco, CA, grandson Harrison of China Springs and granddaughter Mary- Elaine Grace of China Springs and 6 ½ great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers you can make a donation in Mary's name to Animal Friends of Washington County, 3901 Hwy 36 N, Brenham TX 77833.
