DOROTHY LOIS HAMLIN (1924 - 2012)
ST.AUGUSTINE,FL/MARS HILL
- Dorothy Lois Ponder Hamlin 87, went on her way to join her loving husband Homer Hamlin and her Lord and Savior Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Dorothy was born in Mars Hill, NC on May 25, 1924 and had resided in South Bend, Indiana before moving to St. Augustine, Florida where she lived close to her family for more than thirty years. Dorothy was the youngest of many children born to her parents, Cleophas and Mae Belle Ballard Ponder. She is also preceded in death by her late husband Homer Herbert Hamlin, two sisters Rellie Hollifield and Belva Fox, and two brothers Levi and Paul Ponder.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Stevens (Tommy) and Deborah Clayton (Jimmy) both of St. Augustine, Fl., her five grandchildren, Soundra Sullivan, Steven Young, Sherri Hancock, Scott Young and Jonathon Dewitt. As well, she is survived by her four great-grandchildren, Samantha Dart, Savanna Dart, Shane Sullivan and Kaylie Dewitt, four great-great grandchildren, Mariah, Shyanne, McKinlie and Baylee. Also surviving Dorothy are her sister Zell Willis and brother Roscoe Ponder as well as many nieces and nephews scattered amongst the hills of Western North Carolina.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday April 14, at Upper Laurel Baptist Church, Mars Hill, NC. Rev. Nelson Ponder and Rev. Bill Ponder will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, April 13, in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, Mars Hill, NC.
