John W Maynard, a native of the State Center community and well known carpenter, succumbed at his home Monday afternoon following a lingering illness. His health began to fail four years ago and he has been confined to his home here for the past year.

He was born on his father's farm three and one-half miles east of State Center on December 5, 1875, and spent his early life in that neighborhood.

Mr Maynard was married to Kora Cecil Worrall at Marshalltown on July 23, 1902, and following their marriage they moved to State Center where they have lived for the past 45 years. To this union nine children were born, all of whom are living.

Besides his widow he is survived by four daughters, Mary Bodie of State Center, Gertrude Nolta of Melbourne, Edith Miller of Casper, Wyoming, and Irene Runberg of Colby, Kansas; five sons, Lee Maynard of Ashflat, Arkansas, Raymond Maynard and Theron Maynard of Eldora, William Maynard of Hubbard and Wesley Maynard of State Center; and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at Wensel Funeral Home in State Center today, with the Rev E R Mitchell, pastor of First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.
