James Bracken, a prominent farmer, who had spent his life in the vicinity of the Jonathan Creek church died on Friday at his home in the country east of this city.
James Robert Bracken, oldest son of John C.and Nancy Bolin Bracken, was born August 3, 1863 in Jonathan Creek Township at the old homestead of the Bolin family. He departed this life August 29, 1941 at the age of 78 years, 20 days.
On August 3, 1886 he was united in marriage to Realy Dazey of E. Nelson township. To this union was born four children, Abby Fay and Earl, both deceased, Mrs. John Dolan of this community and Mrs.Earl Clark of Chicago. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Betty Jean, Virginia and Gerald Dolan and Joanne Clark, one sister, Mrs. Della Jeffris, of McGrath, Minn and one brother John W. Bracken of Jonathan Creek.
In 1895 they moved to the present home in E. Nelson Township. For more than 40 years he was janitor of the Jonathan Creek church and was very much interested in all affairs of the church. He was also caretaker of the cemeteries in Jonathan Creek township for many years.
Funeral services were held at Jonathan Creek church, Sunday afternoon with Rev. W.B.Hopper in Charge. Special numbers were sung by Miss Bertha Gray, accompanied by Mrs. Oral Dolan. Pallbearers were: Carl Leeds, John Higgenson, Herschel Houchin, Edson Buxton, Orville Powell and Walter Crane. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
Among those attending from a distance, were: Mr. and Mrs. Lee Warner, Mr.and Mrs.Cecil Coventry, J. E. Dazey, Miss Lizzie Dazey, Mrs. Gaylord Hatfield, Walter Mathias, Mrs. Abby Spicer, Mellie Spicer and James Francisco from Findlay, Ray Spicer from Paris, Mr. and Mrs.Earl Cooley and daughter, Mrs. Dewey Deckard, Bernice and Josephine Berry, Ralph and Ethel Wood from Decatur, Mr. and Mrs.Clarence Park and son from Humbolt,and Mr. and Mrs. Oris Lane from Dekalb.
