Margaret Whitehead Alexander, 89, of Martin, died Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Alexander were held Friday, September 9, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Ryan Potts and H. Max Speight officiated the services.
Mrs. Alexander owned and operated W.A. Alexander Dairy Farm with her late husband, Alton Alexander. She was also a member of Mt. Pelia Baptist Church. Mrs. Alexander was born August 8, 1916 in Weakley County to the late W.R. (Bob) Whitehead and Jettie Hansbro Whitehead. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Alexander was also preceded in death by a brother, James Whitehead; and a grandson, Lee Alexander.
Mrs. Alexander is survived by two sons, Wendell Alexander of Dresden, and Marvin E. Alexander of Martin; a daughter, Barbara Ann Smith of Martin; two brothers, Franklin Whitehead of Rives, Tennessee, and Billy Whitehead of Tyler, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Alexander of Martin, Mary Nell Polsgrove of South Fulton, and Bobbie Blakemore of Union City; four grandchildren, Chet Alexander, Mark Alexander, Brad Smith, and Lisa Cunningham; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren, Dr. William Permenter and Greg Permenter.
