Matthew W. Yeager, 39, formerly of Hollidaysburg and Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Saturday at his mother's home in Fayetteville.

He was born in Altoona, son of Maxine G. (Carles) Yeager and the late Donald E. Yeager.

Surviving are two brothers: Mark (Brenda) of Chambersburg and Michael (Lisa) of Terre Haute, Ind.; a sister, Deborah Yeager Lee (Jon) of Albuquerque, N.M.; five nephews: Aaron, Andrew and Adam Yeager and Jesse and Jarret Lee; and three nieces: Lindsey, Marlee and Gabrielle Yeager.

Matthew was a 1990 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. He attended Houghton College before being diagnosed with Marfan syndrome and undergoing open heart surgery in 1994. He returned to complete his degree and graduate from Houghton in 1995. In March 2011, he suffered a massive stroke while being evaluated for a heart transplant. He was last employed by Walmart of Altoona as a department manager after working for many years in the same position in Jacksonville, Fla.

Matthew had been a member of Wehnwood United Methodist Church. He had a passion for cars and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins and Penn State fan. He cast a long shadow and left huge footprints to fill. He will be deeply missed by his family and countless friends across the country.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Wehnwood United Methodist Church, 2511 Juniata Gap Road, Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., the Rev. Evelyn Madison officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050; or the National Aphasia Association, 350 Seventh Ave., Suite 902, New York, NY 10001.
