Born Pauline Linn Marlin on August 19, 1914 in Fayette, Missouri, she grew up in a parsonage, the daughter of a Methodist minister who also served congregations in Moberly, Kirksville, and Hannibal, Missouri; and Colorado Springs and Denver, CO.
A graduate of East Denver High School, she attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth for 3 years. After transferring to McMurry College, now McMurry University in Abilene, she attended school on a scholarship for children of Methodist clergy, graduating in 1937. A music education major, she was accompanist for the college's touring choir, the Chanters.
In 1938, she married Wiley L. Caffey, a prominent Abilene Lawyer who served as Abilene's city attorney, Taylor county Judge, and for 11 years as district attorney for the 42nd Judicial District.
Mr. Caffey died in 1977.
Mrs. Caffey lived in Abilene until 2005, when she moved to a retirement home in Clovis NM.
She is survived by 3 children - Nancy Smythe of Brownwood, Texas, Jean Caffey Lyles of Oak Park, Ill, and David Caffey and wife Mary of Clovis, NM; 3 sisters; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.
