This tombstone has 2 'D' in Broaddus, the other stones have only 1 'D'Leland was one of eleven children of Lunsford and Nancy (Gayle) Broaddus. His earliest known grandparents were Edward & Mary (Shipley) Broadus.

Leland's family moved a lot, by 1835 they settled in what is now Marshall County.

Leland first marriage was to Harriet M Crane the daughter of Hesekiah T. & Clarissa Crane. They were married in Marshall County in 1851.

The couple had 2 children:
Lunsford T., b 1852, m. 1874, Arie E. Hailey, 7 ch
Hervey Elliot, 1858-1935, m. 1881, Cordelia B Glenn 3 ch

Sadly Harriett died in 1858.

A year later In 1859 Leland married Susan Case.

The couple had 5 children:

The 1850 census shows a 24 year old Leland was a farmer in Marshall County. In 1880 it shows Leland owned 320 acres. By 1896 he was living in Hennepin, Putnam Co. Lastly in 1906 Leland was living in Clear Creek, Marshall County.

Here is what was written about Leland in The Record of Olden Times:
Mr. Broaddus is a farmer living on section 23. He was born in Caroline county, Va., in 1826. In 1835 he, with his parents, located in Marshall Co., and in 1849 removed to Putnam. In 1851 he married Harriet Crane, who died in 1858, leaving two children, Lundsford T. and Hervey E. He married Susan Case, a native of Indiana, and his present wife, in 1859, three children being the result of this union. John L., Irving, and Clara. Mr. B., is a member of the Baptist church and a school trustee. He owns 320 acres, mostly under cultivation, with good improvements.
