Robert S. Riggs, 88 of Connersville, passed away Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 at Fayette Regional Health Systems.


He was born August 5, 1923 in Rushville, Indiana, one of four children of Glen and Marquerite Gallimore Riggs; as a family they moved to Connersville for residence and he graduated from Connersville High School in 1943.

During the Second World War, he served with the US Army in the European Theater where he received, for exemplary service, the Purple Heart.

On April 17, 1955, he was married to Phyllis Timmons of Richmond and they reared two children, Sheri and David; Mrs. Riggs survives.

He was employed for many years at Design and Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1987.

He was a member of the Central Christian Church since 1933 (the longest active member), the American Legion Post No. #1 and the Warren Lodge F & AM.

Survivors besides his wife include two children, Sheri L. Mankin of San Diego, CA and David L. Riggs and his wife Kathy of Muncie, IN, four grandchildren, Elyse Mankin of Long Beach, CA, Timothy Riggs of Muncie, Stephen Riggs and his wife Lucy of Noblesville, IN and Allison Crouch and her husband Kisle of Indianapolis, one great-granddaughter, Lily Crouch of Indianapolis, a sister, Marlyn Fink and her husband Otho of Connersville, and a brother, Richard Riggs of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; he was also blessed with many nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was preceded by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" and Lois Riggs.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday, May 25, 2012 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Terlep, officiating; burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery – family and friends may call at the Funeral Home from 11 AM until the time of the service (they may also visit anytime online at millermosterrobbins.com); Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 10:45AM same day.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church.
