John and his wife Ella had no children.
In 1881 they were living in Fort Scott, Kansas. Sometime after that, they left Fort Scott and went to live in Bellingham, Wa.
My brother Mark lives in Bellingham and stopped by the cemetery for me to see if he could get some information about John. This is what he found out.
The cemetery employee said that they usually have the cause of death listed, but since he had been there so long, there was nothing noted. He told her that she could write in that he died building a well, which she did.
At Bayview Cemetery, John is listed as J.H. Kidwell. A J.H. Thomas bought his casket for $1.25 and purchased the plot specifically for J.H. Kidwell.
The location is rather nice. Right next to the creek and under some shady trees. According to her plot map, it appears his grave may be under the shoulder of the road. There are a couple of other stones where his should have been and they look like they have been moved at some point in their life because they are skewed. All the markers around John Kidwell's plot have dates around the 1880's and 90's.
John's wife is not buried there. She most likely re-married and moved on.
