Lamar Ryan King, Jr.

Lamar Ryan King, Jr., 84 of Greenwood passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital. He has lived at Country Meadow Personal Care Home since February 2008. Services will be 11a.m.Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Wilson & Knight Chapel. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11a.m.Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sidon Cemetery.
He was born in Sidon, MS September 22, 1927. He was the son of Lamar Ryan and Edna Smith King, the eldest of four children, two brothers and one sister. He graduated from Greenwood High School Class of 1944. A long time member of First Baptist Church in Memphis TN, he was the organist there for over 40 years. He loved music, the piano and organ. He entered many piano contest in Memphis and the surrounding area. He was a member of the Memphis Chapter of the American Guild of Organist. He attended many organ conventions all over the United States. He worked for Gulf Oil Company for 39 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lamar Ryan King, his mother Edna Holton Smith King, his brother Holton King, his sister-in-law Sadie Vest King and his niece Lisa Ruth King. Mr. King is survived by his brother Basil Kennedy King of Sidon, MS and wife Ada, a sister Ann King Fondren and husband Billy of Greenwood, MS. Three nephews Holton King, Jr., Lance King and Kenny King and one niece Melanie Newman.
Pallbearers are Lance King, Colby Newman, James "Jimbo" Newman, Cody Richardson, Tommy Smith and Matt Howard.
