Jean Phibbs Burgwald, 56, of Nokesville, Va., died on Saturday, August 28, 1999 at Prince William Hospital. She grew up in Pulaski and then went to the Northern Virginia area. Burgwald was an educator in both the Prince William County and the Manassas City Schools for over 34 years. She was a graduate of Radford University and received a Masters degree from Virginia Tech in 1975. Burgwald was employed as the Director of Guidance at Metz Junior High School in Manassas at the time of her death. She was a member of Prince of Peace United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arby H. Phibbs, in 1998. She is survived by her husband, Bill Burgwald of Nokesville; one son, Ted A. Burgwald of Nokesville and her mother Katherine Phibbs of Pulaski. Burgwald is also survived by one brother, Bill Phibbs of Linden and two sisters, Peggy Metz of Pulaski and Earleen Vaughan of Manassas.
The family will receive friends on tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home of Manassas, 8521 Sudley Rd., Manassas, Va. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 1999 at Prince of Peace United Methodist Church, 6299 Token Forest Dr., Manassas, with the Rev. Dr. Edwin Clever officiating.Interment will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society, Virginia Division Inc., Northern Virginia Area, P.O. Box 699, Vienna, Va., 22183-0699 or to Hospice of Northern Virginia P.O. Box 922, Falls Church, Va., 22010-0922 in memory of Jean P. Burgwald.
