Death came to J.R. Walton at the family home in Creighton, Friday, March 2, after a lingering illness.

James Reuben Walton was born in Lynn County, Iowa, August 8, 1854. He emigrated to Nebaska, locating near Walnut in 1879, later homesteading near Winnetoon, retiring from farm life, but a few years ago and removing to Creighton. His age at the time of death was 68 years, 6 months and 24 days.

On August 28, 1873 he was married to Maria Klingaman to which union seven children were born, all of whom are living.

The surviving relations are, wife, three sons, Alfred C., Creighton; Willard W., Center; Charles N., Ashland; four daughters, Mrs. O.A. Danielson, Glendale, Calif.; Mrs. H.C. Peterson, Central City; Mrs. H.J. Steinhausen, Creighton and Mrs. E.D. Lundak, Pierce. One sister and four brothers, fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

For forty years, J.R. Walton was identified with the growth of the community. During his active period in life he participated in the prosperity and vicissitudes that inured to the sturdy pioneer.

As a farmer he studied and executed methods of enterprise that were emulated. He gave much to the upbuilding of the community.

As a husband and father he was provident. A realization of such ability under pioneering conditions can be known only to those who have passed through ordeals. A tribute to this man's memory is justifiable.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Monday, conducted by Rev. DeBenham and interment made in the Creighton cemetery.

The large crowd of friends of the deceased and of the surviving relatives, who were in attendance at the funeral services and the abundant floral offerings gave eloquence to the esteem in which he was held.
