Paul VanAckeren Dies in Omaha
We just received a report as we were going to press of the passing of Paul VanAckeren, Sr., at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha. The word will be received with shock and sorrow to the entire community. Mr. VanAckeren had been a businessman seeking development andn furthering the progress of this community for the past twenty-seven years and his death will be the mourning of everyone who knew him. He passed away at about 2:00 p.m.

Paul VanAckeren Services Saturday
Came Here with Bros. in 1912; Had Been a Leader in Local Development
Paul VanAckeren, Sr., one of this community's most enterprising and prominent business men, whose death was received with sadness and griefing by the entire community, was buried here last Saturday morning with a large number of relatives and friends in attendance. Services were held at the St. Anthony Church at 9:00 o'clock and interment made in the parish cemetery.
Paul VanAckeren was born July 12, 1866 at Mehr near Cleve, Germany and died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha at 1:45 Thursday afternoon, July 26, 1934 after reaching the age of 68 years, 14 days. He had been ill the past six months, however, he suffered a relapse recently after recovering earlier in the summer. He had been taken to the hospital in Omaha Monday evening of last week and when his condition became serious, Thursday morning his family was summoned to his bedside.
In 1882 Mr. VanAckeren came to this country with his parents and after eighteen months residence near Plainview, Nebr., they settled on a homestead in Cummings county north of West Point. In 1893 when he moved to a farm near Lindsay, he was wed to Caroline Melcher. In the year of 1901 they moved to Lindsay where he took over the management of a lumber yard and elevator company. He became vice president and cashier of a Lindsay bank in 1907. On February 1st, 1912, together with his three brothers, A. J., G. M. and Fred they bought the business of the Cedar Rapids Improvement Co. which they changed to VanAckeren Bros. He was active in the milling business which was part of the enterprise for many years, having the distinction of operating the only mill in operation in Boone Co. for many years, until his death.
Besides a devoted wife he leaves to mourn his death, five daughters, Mrs. D. E. Conant, Mrs. Geo. Lebens, Vera, Marie and Eleanor all of this place; three sons, Dr. Joseph of Seattle, Wash., Paul, Jr. and Florian of this place; two brothers, A. J. and G. M., Fred having preceded him in death in 1923; one sister, Mrs. Will Keller of West Point; one sister, Mrs. Joe Melcher having died in 1928; and six grandchildren.
