Born on July 21, 1928, Douglas H. Davis, Jr. was an accomplished artist, aviator, and veteran. Upon the conclusion Second World War, he served with the United States Army in Europe. Later, he attended The Atlanta Art Institute, graduating in 1949. Afterwards, he began his studies at Université Paris IV-Sorbonne in Paris, France. There, he became a well-known painter of portraits, commissioned by socially prominent figures both in the United States and Europe, including the wife of Walter Chrysler and Princess Elizabeth de Croy. He also painted a number of iconic murals. Establishing a studio in Paris, he was considered by many in the international community to be one of the most promising young artists of the time. He and Edith Paif were lovers for several years.
Yet, as his career neared its height, he met the same tragic fate as his famous father. His father had died in a plane crash in Cuyahoga, County, Ohio, in 1934, when the younger Davis was only six years old. In similar fashion, Doug Davis, Jr. was a victim of the infamous crash of Air France Flight 007 at Orly Airfield in Paris on June 3, 1962.
