Alonzo S Adams

Alonzo S. Adams was born in 25 Sept 1860 in Lawrence County, MO, the son of Alexander Adams and Matilda Beckwith, both of whom were born in Ireland. Alonzo had many brothers and a sister. His father had five sons from his first marriage (all born in Ireland or NY). Those brothers tended to work with their father in the milling business first in Rochester, NY and then in SW Missouri. There were four boys and one daughter from the second marriage, some born in NY, some in Missouri.

SW Missouri had a lot of raids from Bushwhackers and Jayhawks during the Civil War, but Alexander's work as a miller was considered essential and he did not serve in the Union Army, though some of Alonozo's oldest brothers did.

Alonzo married Mary Florence Argo, who was born 11 Aug 1865 in Illinois. Their first daughter was born in MO in 1887 but they were in Neodesha Kansas for the 1900 census (Alonzo was a drayman), and had been there awhile as their second daughter was born in Kansas in 1891. They moved a lot -- they were in Dewey, OK in 1910, Arkansas in 1920, and back in Dewey in 1930.

Alonzo and Florence died in Oklahoma. They are buried in Prairie Bell Cemetery in Putnam, Dewey County, OK. They had five daughters - Bertha, Jennie, Fern, Ruby and Elva.
