James William "Jim" Argall, age 87, of Mineral Point and Janesville passed away peacefully under the kindness and compassion of the Mineral Point Care Center and surrounded by his family on .Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007. He was born on April 29, 1919, the son of Clara (Richards) Argall and William Argall and raised on Fair Street in Mineral Point. He graduated from Mineral Point High School with the Class of 1937. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1940 and was on Midway Island during the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway and subsequently fought in the battle for Peleliu Island in September 1944. He was discharged in November 1945 as a sergeant, having served more than 38 months overseas.

In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ralph, Alfred (Beanie) and Charlie; and by his sister, Roxie Pepper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at ST. MARY'S-ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Mineral Point. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Mineral Point V.F.W. and American Legion.
