He married Karen Bogg in Madison on Jan. 11, 1972. After his discharge from the Army, he attended General Beadle College in Madison, and worked at the Flandreau Indian School until 1994. He also worked as a grant writer for the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe for a year.
Don enjoyed fishing on the Big Sioux River and working on old cars.
Don died March 31, 1997 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He is survived by five daughters: Theresa Schuyler-Anderson; Barbara Christensen; Bridget, MaShay, and Faye Schuyler; three sons: Allen; Brock; and Donnie; four grandchildren; his mother, Jessie King; brother William; and six sisters: Judy Koob; Betty Hasvold; Angie Schuyler; Jan Bohling; LuAnn Shinault; and Sharon Smith.
A funeral Mass was held April 4, 1997 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic church, with burial in the parish cemetery.
