Mary Alice Norris True passed away Friday, April 16, 2004 at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell after a prolonged period of ill health. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Wilder Cemetery, Wilder. Mary Alice was born in Mercy Hospital in Nampa on April 7, 1922. She was the daughter of Wilbur and Elizabeth Norris. In her youth, she lived on a farm east of Marsing, where she attended Knowlton Heights School. She went to Caldwell High School and later attended the College of Idaho. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1952 with a degree in Education. For two years afterward she taught school in Jerome, Idaho before marrying Robert Terrell True of Caldwell. The couple farmed in the Marsing area for 31 years. In her youth, Mary loved to paint and draw. Her favorite subjects included flowers and horses. From time to time, her pen and ink equine renderings were published in the local paper. With little money for art materials, she even created figurines out of soap and plaster of paris.
Mary´s second love was flower gardening, as was evidenced by the colorful plantings that surrounded the family home. She tended her flower beds faithfully until her later years when her health began to fail. Mary possessed a true love for the simple things in life. Having lived through the Great Depression, she was adamant in her practices of thrift. Nothing pleased her more than a weekend hike in the Owyhees or a camping trip to the forest with her husband and two children. She was even known to try her hand at fishing from time to time. After retirement, Mary and Terrell purchased a motor home and experienced a bit of traveling, taking in such sites as the Redwoods, Disneyland, the Oregon coast and Scotty´s Castle. Always though, Mary was happiest at home on the family farm with her flowers and her simple treasures.
Mary Alice is survived by her husband, Terrell; a son, Bruce Norris True of Scotts Mills, Ore.; and a daughter, Helen Elizabeth Noe of Parma, Idaho; three grandchildren, Angelica True of Scotts Mills, Ore.; and Graham and Jenette Noe of Parma. She also leaves behind two brothers, Clinton Norris of Marsing; and Jim Norris and family of Nampa. Mary Alice, our mom, we miss your sweet tooth and your passion for clipping recipes and news tidbits. We miss your collection of houseplants that without your tender care would not have flourished the same. Most of all we, your loving family, miss you. Despite your lack of show and your quiet nature, you were truly a simple treasure. We hope you will rest comfortably now in Heaven. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Homedale
