William Bond Cochran was the son of William Greene Cochran and Elizabeth Liston Travis. (His middle name came from his mother's mother, Elizabeth Bond.) In 1856, William married Eliza Penrose. They had two children, William Green Cochran (1857-1918) and Harriet Penrose Cochran Suydam (1860-1927).
The Penrose Genealogy reports that "Mr. Cochran was for many years engaged in business as an importer of wines and cigars, being a member of the well-known firm of T. & W. Cochran, his brother Travis Cochran, being his partner."
Six years after his wife's death in 1902, he married in York, Maine, Georgina Haven.
