PENNSYLVANIA FURNACE The Rev. Thomas W. Baker Sr., 69, of 103 Horseshoe Circle died Thursday in Hershey Medical Center.
He was a retired Lutheran minister, having served pastorates at New Castle, Jeannette, Mount Pleasant, Somerset County, Berrysburg and Dubois, and was vice pastor in residence at Gatesburg Lutheran Church, Warriors Mark RD.
He was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, and Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia; a former Navy chaplain; a former fire company chaplain in Mount Pleasant; a former ambulance driver in the upper Dauphin County area; and a former church camp leader and teacher.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Jane Hartman Baker; two sons, Thomas W. Jr. of Pennsylvania Furnace and Richard E. of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Hallie Rose Confer of Teaneck, N.J.; a brother, Donald F. of Greensburg RD; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in his church. Burial will be in Gatesburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Koch Funeral Home, State College.
