Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Barker 1768-1838 and Sarah "Sally" Lay 1790-1835. He was from Culpepper County, Virginia and she from Fayette County, Kentucky. Both passed away in Union County, Kentucky, where they had lived since about 1810.

On March 20, 1844 in Henderson County, Sarah married Phillip Francis Lockett ,1818-1904, from Henderson County, Kentucky.

They had ten children together, seven daughters and three sons.

Sarah's older sister Caroline Walton Barker, 1819-1880, married Phillip's older brother Abner Goode Lockett, 1812-1854, on August 22, 1836 in Union County, Kentucky.
