From the SOUTH BEND (IN) TRIBUNE, April 8, 2012:

MISHAWAKA - Joseph C. Zakrzewski, 88, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Kindred Care, South Bend, IN. Joseph was born on September 21, 1923, in South Bend, to Joseph J. and Lottie (Walkowski) Zakrzewski, and was a lifelong resident. He had been employed with the former Studebaker Corporation, and retired from Midwest Engineering where he was employed as a tool designer. After retirement, Joseph worked in the Pro Shop at the Burke Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

On July 3, 1948, in St. Stanislaus Church, he married Lillian A. Much, who survives. Other survivors include his son, Bruce (Mary) Zakrzewski of Mishawaka, IN; two grandchildren, Jamie (Mike) Neely of South Bend, IN, and Anne Marie Zakrzewski of Mishawaka, IN; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Klinke and Josephine Neely; and one sister, Patricia Birky of South Bend, IN. Joseph was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Zakrzewski; three sisters, Mary Zakrzewski, Clara Nowak and Evelyn Marlin; and one brother, Chester Zakrzewski.

Joseph was a WW II Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Pulaski Post #357 and Z.B. Falcons Nest #80. He enjoyed golfing and dancing, and was a Notre Dame and Cubs fan. Joseph had a zest for life, and cherished his independence.
