A seven-year old aviatrix, Dubroff was attempting to break the world's record for being the youngest person to fly across the United States, when her Cessna Cardinal 177 smashed into the ground shortly after takeoff at Cheyenne, Wyoming, killing her, her father Lloyd Dubroff, and flight instructor Joe Reid. An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board determined that the plane was "overloaded" with "personal effects."
