John was born to John Rinehart Replogle and Barbara Konig. He was a farmer and resided in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania in 1796. He purchased 400 acres of land; in 1800 he lived in Hopewell and Woodberry Townships (Bedford Co) Pennsylvania--next door to his brother; He moved to Elkhart Co., Indiana in 1840 at age 60-70 years old--near his sons Daniel and David.

John married Margaret Metzger (daughter of George Phillip (Von) Metzger, Jr., and Anna Louisa Juliana Broombaugh (Brumbaugh). She was born around 1778 in Germany and died in 1855 in Marshall County, Indiana at age 77 years, 27 days. Margaret's great, great grandson Willard Replogle wrote in 1932 that "Margaret was born in Germany and later went to Holland. She was on the ocean six months coming from Holland to this country."
