John Ashley, age 59, of Altus, OK passed away Sunday, May 11, 2003 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the First Baptist Church of Olustee.

Reverend Doug Altom will officiate with interment following in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family of John Ashley will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening May 13, 2003 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

John was born November 21, 1943 in Olustee, OK to Fred Ashley and Margaret (Simmons) Ashley. He lived and attended school in Olustee for many years. He joined the United States Army where he served for two years before being honorably discharged. On August 13, 1971, John and Susie Pfaff were united in marriage at Wellington, Texas.

John was the owner and operator of Movieland Video in Mangum. He also farmed and raised cattle in this area. John was very involved with the youth. He sponsored the Mangum Football Team, and his nephews at Altus Speedway for several years, and was known in the area as “Uncle Johnny.” John’s favorite pastime was rebuilding his 1982 S10 Pickup. John was totally devoted to his family and was always ready with a story allowing him to brag on his ‘kids’.

John was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Olustee and with anything involving children.

John was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Robin Diane Boyd; and one brother, Lloyd Ervin Ashley.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Susie Ashley of the home in Altus; by two sons, Christopher Shawn Ashley and John Robert Ashley, Jr., both of Tononopah, Arizona; two daughters, Sherri Leigh Bergan, also of Tononopah, Arizona, and Kathy Harper and her husband, Chris of Mangum, Oklahoma; three sisters, Freda Lou Ashley of Altus, Oklahoma, Jaynelle Cash and husband, Ed of Oklahoma City, and Jo Ellen Williams of Bradenton, Florida; 8 grandchildren;special friends, Bob and Shirley Petkoff and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
