BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Douglas (Dud) Eugene Qualls, 84, went to live with his Lord Saturday (July 13, 2002) at Norton Community Hospital.

Dud was a very loving, kind person and always had a smile. St. John 14:2, "In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

Dud was the son of the late Abraham Lincoln Qualls and Vesta Barnette Qualls. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Lee Qualls and Curtis Qualls; and five infant brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two brothers, Delmar Qualls and wife Kathleen, Kingsport, and Dewey Qualls, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three sisters, Bernice Qualls, Big Stone Gap, Va., Bonnie Wells and husband Loren (Cotton), Big Stone Gap, Va., and Mrs. Sylvia Derrick, Church Hill; a very special niece and husband, Wanda and Ron Cakora, and nephew and wife, Casey and Leslie Qualls; and a host of special loving nieces and nephews and friends.

The family wishes to say a special thank you to the staff at Heritage Hall for the wonderful care they gave our Dud.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holding Funeral Home Chapel , Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Derrick and the Rev. Donnie Derrick officiating.

Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery at Purchase Ridge in Scott County, Va.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
