Born in Perry, FL., November 3, 1927, she was a daughter of the late William Tyson and Ada Z. Green Barber. She graduated from Taylor High School, Perry, FL and attended Massey Business College in Jacksonville, FL. She also attended Marsh Business Institute in Atlanta, GA, where she majored in accounting and business and attended Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. Ms. Huckabee formerly co-owned and operated Huckabee Enterprises.
Loraine was a deeply committed Christian lady who was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a member of North Side Baptist Church in Greenwood, having dedicated herself to serving the Lord at age 13. She was known for her numerous accomplishments and for her love and dedication to her family, as well as for the many ways she helps others in need. She served on the Board of Directors of the Garden Club of SC beginning in 1979 and served as its president from 1987-1989. She also served as the West Piedmont District Director and Chaplain of the Garden Club of SC and as president of the nationally accredited Judges Club and was a nationally accredited Master Flower Show Judge (Emeritus), a garden consultant and a landscape critic. In 1995, she authored the prayer book "In His Name, From the Mountains to the Coast", a collection of prayers, thoughts for the day and blessings written during her tenure as chaplain for the Garden Club of SC. She greatly enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, cooking and reading her Bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Huckabee of Abbeville, SC; brothers, William Daniel Green, James Charles Green, Cherry Daniel Green, Raymond Odis Green; a sister, Arcie Mae Edwards; and her step-father, James Frank Barber.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 Sunday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood.
Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.
